“Does Marius Panzarella Believe In Unconditional Love?”
A question I am often asked is, “Marius,
do you believe in unconditional love when it comes
to dating and relationships? Do you think we should
offer unconditional love to our partners?”
Yes, I do – but only to an extent.
As I always say, you should odder your
love and romance without REALLY expecting anything
in return at the beginning of a relationship.
However, there has to be a limit. If your partner
just keeps on taking and taking without ever
reciprocating, then it’s time to review your
stance.
You HAVE to learn to draw boundaries and
protect yourself from pure exploitation, or
eventually you’re going to be tangled up in a big
mess.
For example, if you girlfriend has a bad
case of depression, sure, by all means try to
offer her your support for a few months. But if
she only gets worse and worse because she refuses
to take care of herself and your words just aren’t
getting to her, then there has to be a point when
you say “enough is enough” and move on with your
life – especially if her problem (whatever it is)
is due to her own actions and attitude.
Loving someone blindly is extremely
dangerous – both for you and for your partner. (If
you just keep on supporting your partner
unconditionally, then the person has no reason too
change…)
At the end of the day, you’ve got to protect
yourself, because if you don’t, nobody else will!
