Can You Fix A Commitment-Phobic?
“Can You Fix A Commitment-Phobic?”
A question that I get all the time, especially
with my older readers is, “Marius, can you ever make
someone who is afraid of commitment become less
afraid of marriage or a serious relationship?”
Sorry to have to say this, but from my
experience, most of the time the answer is a
straight “no.”
Why? Because 99% of the time, a person
who has commitment problems will have deeper
character problems as well. Some may have
insecurity problems due to bad childhood or
experiences. Others may simply like to sleep
around. But most of the times, whatever
problems they have won’t be easy to fix.
Here are a few examples:
- Cheating father or mother
- Messy divorce
- Childhood rape or sexual abuse
- Relationship abuse
Think about it. If the problems weren’t
so deep, shouldn’t they have been fixed by now?
Anyway, if you’re in love with someone
who is a commit-phobic, I’d suggest you to ask
them to go to therapy a.s.a.p.
If they like you enough to go, then
good. The relationship will have a chance.
Otherwise, I’d say move on…
The older these people get, the harder
it will be for them to finally commit to
a relationship (people become more stubborn
as they age). By the time a man or woman is
over 40, I’d say most of the time, they are
fixed for life!
